Record 2,497 students get employment in 7 hours.

Arihant College job fair

Indoree : Adding one more feather to its cap, Arihant Institute of Management and Technology on Friday helped as many as 2,497 students in fetching job offers from topnotch companies, thus creating a record of its kind.

“No job fair in the State had ever managed to provide jobs to such a large number of students in a day,” said Arihant College director Kavita Kasliwal.

The placement drive was held from 10 am to 5 pm and in those seven hours nearly 2500 students walked out of the campus with job offers in their hands.

Students from across the state had turned up for the job fair which initially was only for students belonging to the city.

“We had planned the job fair for students of Indore. But we received requests from students from Gwalior, Ratlam, Bhopal, Guna, Khandwa etc to allow them also to participate in the fair. We did not disappoint them,” Kasliwal said.

However, little did the college administration know that the turnout would be of nearly 10,000 students.

The college had planned 1500 registrations against 500 openings in nearly 40 companies including Amazon, Flipkart, Reliance Jio, Wipro, Indigo Airlines, Shriram Finance etc that had given consent to participate in the fair.

But their planning fell flat when the turnout went more than 8 times to what they had initially thought.

The college had setup five desks for registrations — two for girl students, two for boys and one for outstation students.

But by 10 am, which was reporting time, more than 5000 students were in the campus. Registration desks were increased to 15 and later on to 25.

With the number increasing, the college administration closed the gate informing the job aspirants that they would be taken in once the students already inside the campus are registered.

But students outside broke open the gate and forced their entry into the campus. Police had to be called in to control the situation.

The police dispersed the students, who were still standing outside the campus, as their gathering had resulted in a massive traffic jam on Khandwa road.

“Traffic jam occurred on Khandwa road was headache to many commuters but for us it a sign of overwhelming response to our job fair,” Kasliwal said.

8,000 registration, 6,500 students interviewed

Nearly 8000 students were registered for the job fair. Of them, nearly 6,500 were interviewed by representatives of the companies. Initially, the companies had informed us that they have 500 openings but with a huge influx of students they increased the job offers. In total companies picked up 2497 students on the spot, said Kasliwal. She said that the college would organise another job fair in two to three months so that more students can take advantage of the fair.
